Introduction

IT Works is a company that provides innovative and customised IT solutions for various sectors and industries. We are committed to delivering high-quality services and products that meet the needs and expectations of our clients and stakeholders. We are also aware of our social and environmental responsibilities.

On this page, we will show how our company aligns with the four Māori principles of whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, kaitiakitanga, and rangatiratanga. These principles are derived from the Māori worldview and reflect the values and aspirations of Māori culture.

Whanaungatanga: Creating, Building and Maintaining Relationships

Whanaungatanga means building and maintaining relationships based on mutual respect, trust, and cooperation. It also means acknowledging and honouring the connections and obligations that we have with each other, our ancestors, and our environment. Whanaungatanga is essential for creating a sense of belonging and identity, and for fostering collaboration and innovation.

At IT Works, we value whanaungatanga in the following ways:

  • Our clients are treated as partners and we listen to their needs and feedback. We aim to establish long-term and mutually beneficial relationships with them.
  • We respect the diversity and uniqueness of our employees and we provide them with opportunities for learning and development. We encourage teamwork and communication among our staff and we celebrate their achievements and contributions.
  • Our employees birthdays and milestones are celebrated by taking a time out on these special days to enjoy some kai and kōrero.
  • We engage with our communities and we support local initiatives and causes that align with our values and vision.

Manaakitanga: Caring and Hospitality

Manaakitanga means showing care and hospitality to others, especially to visitors and guests. It also means enhancing the mana (prestige and dignity) of others by being generous, courteous, and supportive. Manaakitanga is a way of expressing gratitude and appreciation, and of creating a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

At IT Works, we practice manaakitanga in the following ways:

  • Our clients are provided with high-quality services and products that suit their needs and preferences. We offer them flexible and affordable solutions and we ensure their satisfaction and loyalty. We are proud of the support we provide when our customers need our help and we continue to evolve our capability to ensure our overall level of support continues to improve.
  • We create a safe and healthy work environment for our employees and we provide them with the necessary resources and support. We recognise their efforts and we reward their performance and loyalty.
  • We contribute to the well-being and prosperity of our communities and we respect their values. We donate to local charities and organisations. We also volunteer for social causes.
  • We pride ourselves on our hospitality when hosting clients in our offices. We go the extra mile to ensure they feel welcomed and leave with a memorable experience.

Kaitiakitanga: Stewardship and Guardianship

Kaitiakitanga means being responsible and accountable for the stewardship and guardianship of the natural and cultural resources that we inherit from our ancestors and that we pass on to our descendants. It also means being aware and respectful of the interdependence and balance between humans and nature, and of the spiritual and cultural significance of the environment. Kaitiakitanga is a way of expressing our commitment and duty to protect and enhance the taonga (treasures) that we have.

At IT Works, we uphold kaitiakitanga in the following ways:

  • We use environmentally friendly and sustainable practices and technologies in our work. We minimise our waste by recycling, minimise emissions with an electric/hybrid fleet of company vehicles. We optimise our energy and water consumption.
  • We advocate for and facilitate the preservation and rejuvenation of Māori language and customs in our workplace by promoting the use of te reo Māori and tikanga Māori in our communication and documents. Some staff members also take classes in their own time to enhance their understanding of te ao māori and then pass on what they’ve learned to their colleagues.
  • We acknowledge and respect the intellectual property and cultural heritage of Māori and other indigenous peoples in our work.
  • We support our customers by providing a free e-waste service where we collect, securely delete data and then re-use or recycle the equipment.

Rangatiratanga: Self-Determination and Leadership

Rangatiratanga means exercising self-determination and leadership in our own affairs and in our relationships with others. It also means being confident and competent in our abilities/skills and being accountable and transparent in our actions and decisions. Rangatiratanga is a way of expressing our autonomy and sovereignty, and our aspiration and vision.

At IT Works, we demonstrate rangatiratanga in the following ways:

  • We provide our clients with innovative and customised IT solutions that enhance their productivity and competitiveness. We deliver our services and products with excellence and professionalism.
  • We empower our employees to take initiative and responsibility in their work. We provide them with autonomy and flexibility. We encourage staff to pursue their goals and passions.
  • We lead by example, and we inspire others to follow our vision and values. We act with integrity and honesty, and we adhere to the highest ethical standards.
