E-waste, done right

Old technology, new purpose

Every device we manage eventually reaches the end of its working life with you. That doesn’t have to mean landfill, or a data risk. It’s a service we provide to our clients as part of working together: your retired equipment gets a secure, useful second life.

How it works

From your storeroom to somewhere it matters

Data destroyed, certified

Before anything leaves your hands, every drive is securely wiped or physically shredded to an unrecoverable standard, with destruction certificates supplied for your records and compliance.

Reuse comes first

Equipment with life left in it is refurbished, donated to families in need in our community, or on-sold with proceeds going to local charities. Your old laptop can be someone’s first computer.

Nothing wasted

What can’t be reused is stripped for parts and responsibly recycled, keeping metals, plastics and batteries out of landfill and hazardous waste handled properly.

A client service, not a public drop-off

E-waste recycling is part of how we look after our clients’ technology across its whole life. Collection, secure data destruction and rehoming are arranged through us as part of your service, we don’t operate a public drop-off point. Not an IT Works client yet? Consider this one more good reason to start a conversation.

Our partner: Recycling for Charity

We’re a proud sponsor and partner of Recycling for Charity, an Upper Hutt operation with a simple vision: technology that would otherwise be destined for landfill gets refurbished, rehomed or recycled, and the proceeds support local charities.

They handle secure drive destruction to a standard unrecoverable by forensics, donate refurbished computers to families in our community, and turn what’s left into properly recycled materials. When our clients retire equipment through us, this is where it goes, and everyone benefits.

It’s also a natural expression of kaitiakitanga, the guardianship value we hold ourselves to. Technology should serve people and place for its whole life, not just while it’s new.
